OASIS Platform

Proven, scalable, open standards based multimedia switching platform

Overview

Introducing the OASIS platform, a leading and open standards multimedia and switching solution. Combining cutting-edge technology with innovative platform features, OASIS delivers incomparable facilities and advantages that fully support the complex requirements of present and Next Generation Networks (NGN).

As the pioneering platform of OASIS Systems (founded in 1989), the OASIS Platform was launched to support service bureaus in the premium rate industry for mass calling competitions and televoting events.

Officially launched in 1994, OASIS delivered the first ISDN based IVR solution in Australia. 1996-7 saw the OASIS platform enabling the launch of prepaid calling card and prepaid mobile services into Australia with key customers Vodafone and Unidial.

Subsequently, the OASIS Platform with its modular architecture evolved into a series of key product offerings as a result of strategic OEM partnerships with leading technology vendors. In 1998, OASIS launched an IN based, Service Control Point with Compaq (Digital), this followed another OEM product launch with Intel (Dialogic Division) in 2001, where we introduced to the market a high density TDM / IP / Converged Media Server capable of supporting over 2000 TDM ports per 4RU server.

The key to the OASIS platform’s success lies in its core strengths of flexibility, reliability, and scalability. Combining, the use of open standards based hardware, operating systems and system interfaces, the platform is highly interoperable with open standards compliant networks & systems.

Standards Based

The OASIS platform utilises open standards and open source technologies as it’s foundation. Based on Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL 4.0), OASIS adopts all applicable industry standards (e.g. VoiceXML, RTSP, MRCP, IMS, SIP, RTP, SOAP, XML, HTTP) to ensure current and future interoperability with external systems and networks .

Modular Software

OASIS introduced the concept of Telephony Objects in the late 1990’s, to allow solution providers to “mix and match” the platform’s software modules. This enables our platform to be tailored specifically to match deployment requirements, and to introduce new technologies into our solution without affecting existing applications.

For instance, an application running on an ISDN platform can seamlessly interface to ISUP or IP environments with little or no changes to the base application.  This ensures the platform has a long term shelf life and avoids unnecessary redundancy or re-write  due to new technology implementations and network environment migrations or changes.

OASIS plug-in Telephony Objects provide support for media resources, call / media controllers and different types of telephony networks including SIP, INAP, CAMEL 1-3, ISUP, CAS, ISDN, media resources such as Video, Voice, Speech (ASR), Text-To-Speech (TTS), Conferencing, Fax, and DTMF.

Modular Architecture (Centralised and Distributed)

OASIS has a history of large deployments in the mass calling service bureau and telecom operator markets.  To address availability and performance problems common to those verticals, OASIS released a server based distributed software capability in 1999.  There are three key advantages of this architecture: performance, availability and scalability.

The ability to distribute and load share applications across many media servers is key to maintaining performance.  Distributed platform modules allow solution architects to ensure adequate CPU power is available to the processes needing it most.  This allows OASIS to be deployed on a massive scale yet and delivering the highest levels of performance and availability.

OASIS has a native fail-over / hot standby capability which maintains service availability; 99.999% availability solutions are easily architected with no single point of failure.

Capabilities

  • Multi-tenancy Platform – OASIS provides multi-tenancy support, which allows ASP applications to be grouped and controlled on the allocation of system resources for each tenant.  Having multi-tenancy support allows the same platform to fulfil different sets of deployment requirements to cater for Application Service Providers.  By having a single integrated solution which supports multiple tenant application deployments, OASIS platform is able to deliver significant cost saving.
  • Service Provisioning and Intelligent Resource Management  - OASIS Manager provides system wide service provisioning tools, real-time call and resource availability statistics, which enables operators to monitor and manage all aspects of system status, network & media resources and performance levels.
  • Multiple Application APIs – Utilise your API of choice, standards based VoiceXML 2.0/2.1 or own powerful TSL scripting language and open API OpenCLI.
  • Integrated with Nuance ASR & TTS Resources – OASIS platform supports Nuance OpenSpeech™ Recognizer, RealSpeak Text-to-Speech, Nuance OSDM-2 Core and most Nuance Dialog modules, (encapsulated application logic).
  • 3rd Party Monitoring Interface – Via OASIS’s Probe interface module a service provider can interface existing monitoring consoles to OASIS.  The Probe module is empowered with a spread of platform management and statistics capturing capabilities.
  • Secured Communication – Understanding the importance of having a secured network free from tampering and vicious attack, the OASIS platform utilises the secured HTTPS protocol to maintain security to safeguard network and data integrity.  The platform also supports Secure Socket Layer (SSL) connections on all OASIS interfaces and supports Server / Client authentication and SSL session caching.

Benefits

  • Battle Hardened – With over 250,000 ports shipped and deployed globally the OASIS platform has been “battle hardened” to ensure stability, scalability and performance in very large deployment scenarios.
  • Application Platform Flexibility – VoiceXML 2.0 & 2.1 compliance, ensures the OASIS platform interoperates seamlessly with “off the shelf” standards based applications and their respective servers like BEA WebLogic, IBM WebSphere and Apache.
  • Broad Signalling Protocol Coverage – With a comprehensive list of standard signalling protocols (SIP, H.323, 3G–H.324M, ISDN, ISUP, INAP and CAMEL) the OASIS platform provides unparalleled connectivity strength to support smooth integration in different network environments.  Integrated signalling and media components deliver a high throughput, high reliability platform that can fully cater to the complex and niche deployment requirements of service providers.
  • Converged Network Interoperability – By leveraging the rich spread of signalling protocols, the OASIS platform is able to support converged network (IP and TDM) deployments with it’s integrated gateway capability, rather than utilising external and expensive signalling protocol and media conversion gateways.
  • Shorter Deployment Lead-time  – The OASIS  platform complies 100% to VoiceXML 2.0 & 2.1 standards, enabling clients to leverage their existing in-house web development expertise, in order to roll-out speech and traditional IVR solutions with shorter development and integration lead-times.
  • Intuitive and User Friendly Service Creation GUI – OASIS Speech Creator (VoiceXML) drag and drop GUI generates 100% portable, standards based VoiceXML 2.0 / 2.1 code and is fully supported by the OASIS platform.  The end result has proven that developers are able to cut their application development time by up to 50% for most application development projects.
  • High Density / Small Foot Print – In TDM environments, OASIS supports up to 64 E1 (1920 ports) in a 4 RU server, and 1200 media resources. For IP environments, as a media server, OASIS supports up to 960 ports of G.711 enhanced media ports in a 2 x 1RU server configuration..
  • Global Approvals – OASIS supports global deployments utilising worldwide approved network interfaces via industry leader and partner Dialogic.
